This week I visited Pontianak, Kalimantan for a work trip. It's situated directly on top of the equator. Although I did not have time to visit the infamous equator monument and receive a certificate (next time!), I did sweat it out in heat and jungle. The conferences I attended were beautifully anchored by the lush foliage of the tropics - hard to believe the seasons have shifted at all from this vantage point. While folks in the U.S. were busy changing their watches, the natural timing of sunset and sunrise on the equator happened like clockwork, 6am and 6pm. It was a short but good visit - I hope to go back to see more of the area on a future trip. Here are a few images to tease your imagination.
