Last night we went to a community party to celebrate the 4th of July and part of the entertainment was a local women's drumming group called Batalá. They played for a bout 30 minutes with different size drums and kind of rhythmic dancing - it was stunning. I even got to try to play one of the drums myself for a short part of the performance. This morning, I have been doing some investigation and just learned that they practice on Saturdays in the park by my apartment and newcomers can just show up and learn. I may have to do some investigating -- this would be a really amazing local hobby to take up. Here's a bit of a taste of the group from a YouTube video I found. Enjoy!
