Tiranë, city of color

From Tirana07
The mayor of Tiranë is a former artist and color in this appealing city is encouraged as a way to disguise and innovate upon its communist roots. The effect is much like the city itself--endearing! My two days of exploration in this city were also colorful from wandering through the city to see its murals, canals, parks, and mosques to enjoying a glass of beer or delicious Italian meal (homemade pasta and mussels!) with other adventurous spirits. It was invigorating to discover the city and enjoyable to catch up with a friend from my Fulbright experience in Romania last year who is now working at Mjaft, a movement to raise awareness about issues facing Albania. I even managed to run into some Estonian vacationers while out one evening... the world somehow seems to only get smaller and smaller!
