I want to ride my bicycle...

I think I might have mentioned one of my new big purchases already, but, for extra emphasis, to share my excitement, I'll mention it once again: I have a new, shiny, red bike!!!

A couple of weeks ago, I decided to celebrate the fact that I would be able to enjoy my time here in Estonia for a bit longer (I renewed my ELF grant for a second year) by buying a new mode of transportation. It's fantastic and cool... I can now pedal my way out of town to the quiet Estonian woods and lovely green areas around. Plans are even developing for a cross-country trip in July to visit the west coast Estonian islands of Hiiuma and Saremaa! Last weekend, while the sun was shining (so was my super fast bike), we took a small adventurous ride along the river here in Tartu. I even broke in the bike with a little bit of road rash (a long, detailed story of my back tire skidding over some rocks and me landing on my head... no blood or broken bones of which to speak).

Bicycle helmets are a worthwhile investment & will protect your head from serious injuries. Buy one & wear it!!

Thanks, "anonymous," for the parental advice. For the record, I have one (it's red) and do wear it, although it isn't in the photos, above. It helps prepare my delicate head from such afore-mentioned scrapes. :)

I may be a bit behind in my blog response, but I'm writing to nag you about wearing a bike helmet as well. Jenn, on a bike ride Tyler and I did in Chile a few years back, I suffered a severe concussion, short-term memory loss, and a crushed helmet. All day I had been riding without a helmet since we were off road, alone, without any traffic. I only decided to put my helmet on when we came across a recently turned over car on the remote road on which we were cycling. If I hadn't happened to have put my helmet on, I probably wouldn't be here today to nag you. Now Tyler and I never ride even across the street without a helmet. :) Nag, nag, nag. Just because I care about you and want you to have many more glorious days on your new, shiny red bike. :)
Cris.
P.S. Would you ever dare ride your motocycle without a helmet? I think not.
